Kennedy Space Center Public Affairs Office, and on behalf of our Center Director, Mr. Roy Bridges, I would like
to welcome you to the Kennedy Space Center and todays Pre-Launch Briefing. |

We will begin with a brief update
on the upcoming launch of the Space Shuttle Atlantis and her crew. |

Launch Weather
Outlook: (As of May 11) Launch
attempts on April 24, 25 and 26 were scrubbed because of unacceptable weather conditions.
The new launch date is May 18. Weather forecasts for the day of launch will be
posted when they become available. |

Crew Arrival & Status:
The STS-101
flight crew arrived at KSC at 3:30 p.m. on April 21 for the first series of launch
attempts.
For the May 18 launch, the crew is scheduled to
arrive at 11:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 14.

Preparations to remove PDU from Atlantis |
. |
Technical Issues:
(As of May 11)April 18: Shuttle engineers completed testing of the recently replaced
rudder/speed brake power drive unit (PDU). Preliminary evaluation showed that the PDU
replacement was a success.
April 19: Workers replaced two quick disconnects on gaseous nitrogen
lines for auxiliary power units (APU) No. 1 and No. 2. The APU flight pressurization tests
are complete and good. Pressure tests on the orbiter's reaction control system are also
complete.
April 21: External tank purge activities are complete and orbiter
aft compartment close-outs concluded. |

- Hatch closed and latched - 4:32 a.m.
