.    . . . . Technical Issues:

Several technical issues have kept Kennedy Space Center workers busy preparing for launch and delayed Discovery’s launch date.

Damaged wiring was replaced aboard Discovery before rollout from the Vehicle Assembly Building to the launch pad.

Main engine No. 3 was replaced after a half-inch-long drill bit was discovered to be lodged in the engine’s coolant cavity.

After Discovery reached the pad, damaged wiring which was found in an umbilical between the orbiter and the external tank was repaired and tested.

A wiring harness which had a nick in its teflon insulation was replaced and retested.

A dented main propulsion system line which carries liquid hydrogen fuel for the Shuttle main engines was replaced.

Propellant loading of the external tank is scheduled to begin about 12:28 p.m. on Thursday.

The final poll for launch go/no go will be conducted just before the conclusion of the final hold in the countdown which should end about 9:09 p.m.

. . . .  . Presenter Introduction:

For the next 40 minutes or so, we are fortunate to have two of our KSC engineers with us who will introduce us to some of the unique characteristics that make the Kennedy Space Center such a special place to visit, provide an insider’s view of Space Shuttle processing at Kennedy, and will conclude with an overview of the STS-103 mission, science and crew.

Hopefully, after the briefings, we’ll have some time for a few questions from the audience. If we don’t, we would invite any of you who might have some quick questions to come forward after we’re excused and we’ll try to answer them for you.

Please join me in welcoming our presenters -

Mr. David Rainer (briefing 1 - Alligators and Rocket Ships

Ms. Debra Frostrom (briefing 1 - Mission and Crew)

Mr. Jon Cowart (briefings 2 and 3 -Alligators and Rocket Ships)

Mr. Dennis Armstrong (briefings 2 and 3  - Mission and Crew)
