Mission
Update
Space Shuttle
Atlantis is scheduled to be launched this afternoon. The forecast
shows a 40 percent probability of weather prohibiting the flight
due to a low cloud ceiling and precipitation. This 13th assembly
flight to the International Space Station includes four spacewalks
to attach the S0 truss to the U.S. Lab. One of the spacewalkers,
Mission Specialist Jerry Ross, is breaking a Shuttle program record
by making his seventh flight. Other crew members are Commander
Michael Bloomfield, Pilot Stephen Frick, and Mission Specialists
Steven Smith, Ellen Ochoa, Lee Morin and Rex Walheim. Frick, Morin
and Walheim are making their first Shuttle flights.

aboard a Delta II rocket from Vandenberg AFB has been rescheduled
for April 26. Flying in an orbit that covers the globe every 16
days, Aqua will provide a six-year chronology of the planet and
its processes. Comprehensive measurements taken by its onboard
instruments will allow scientists to assess long-term change,
identify its human and natural causes and advance the development
of models for long-term forecasting.
