Middens,
Mounds, Canals And Castles: A Look at KSC Before The Space Age
Joan Deming,
co-principal and vice president of Archaeological Consultants,
Inc., in Sarasota, Fla., will focus on the results of a multi-year
archaeological survey of the KSC. The first people to occupy the
KSC area arrived several thousands of years ago. After the last
aboriginal populations vanished from the area, early American
settlers made their homes where the Indians once lived. Hidden
in remote places not far from where man was launched into space,
archaeologists have uncovered the sites of homesteads and commercial
enterprises, as well as the remains of an old fort and canal.
After the presentation, join Joan for a hands-on look at some
of the "stones and bones"" discovered during her investigations.
You can hear Joan's presentation during Environmental & Energy
Awareness Week at 10:15 a.m. April 24 in the VAB Area/Parking
Lot E.
