Spacewalks To Be Broadcast on NASA Television
Two spacewalks, slated for Aug. 16 and 23 and conducted
by the Expedition Five crew on the International Space Station,
will be covered live on NASA Television. Coverage of the first
spacewalk, by Commander Valery Korzun and Flight Engineer Peggy
Whitson, will begin at 3 a.m. EDT Aug. 16. The spacewalkers will
install micrometeoroid debris shields on the Zvezda Service Module
and change out experiments measuring residue emitted from Zvezda's
jet thrusters.
In the
second spacewalk on Aug. 23, Korzun and Flight Engineer Sergei
Treschev will swap out Japanese experiments measuring the effect
of the space environment on a variety of materials and install
two additional amateur radio antennas on Zvezda. Coverage of the
second spacewalk will begin at midnight EDT Aug. 23. Both spacewalks
are expected to last about six hours.
Commentary
will originate from the International Space Station flight control
room at the Johnson Space Center, Houston, with available downlink
television from cameras on the Station's Canadarm2 robotic arm.
