Shuttle Update

Processing continues for Atlantis' STS-112 launch to the International Space Station. All three of Atlantis' main engines have been installed. Main propulsion system leak checks and heat shield installation are in work.

Engineering evaluation continues on the cracks found in the bearings located in the JEL (jacking, equalization and leveling) cylinders on Crawler Transporter No. 2. Technicians have removed eight of the 16 cylinders on Crawler No.2 to perform visual inspection of the bear-ings, while managers assess possible options for repair.

Processing continues for Endeavour's launch to the International Space Station. Technicians completed pol-ishing of the downstream Main Propulsion System flow liner slots on Endeavour and are continuing the work on the upstream liners. Welding of the cracks found in the liners was scheduled to begin Monday.

Keep Informed In Hurricane Emergencies
In a storm situation, KSC could lose all power and computer services. For this reason the KSC Emergency Preparedness Office has established a virtual Web site at Marshall Space Flight Center where individuals who have evacuated the local area in a storm situation can find out the latest duty status and updated information about KSC. Please bookmark or write down the Web site on home PCs and laptops that you might carry with you: http://ksc-eoc.ksc.nasa.gov . Call Wayne M. Kee, CEM KSC Emergency Preparedness Officer, Spaceport Services Directorate, 321-867-3795, if you have any questions.

Nutrition Tip From KSC Fitness Center -- How to Dine Out Healthfully
Dining in a restaurant is not an invitation to eat more, or eat differently, than you would at home. Focus on the conversation you are having with your friends or family and then:
§ Remove the bread basket from the table as this only fills you up on low-fiber, low-nutrient food.
§ Drink only one alcoholic beverage, and try non-alcoholic drinks instead.
§ Ask for sauces and dressings on the side so you will have more control over what your food is laden with.
§ Ask how the food is prepared so you can avoid fried foods and sauces/soups made with cream sauces.
§ Choose two appetizers rather than a large entrée, such as shrimp cocktail and a salad.
§ If your entrée is large, share it with a friend or take home half for lunch the next day.
§ If you have dessert, share one with everyone at the table, so you can still enjoy yourself without overeating.
