Experiments Being Worked on ISS
Last week the Expedition Four crew aboard the International Space Station - Commander Yury Onufrienko and Flight Engineers Carl Walz and Dan Bursch - tested the ultrasound instrument in the Human Research Facility rack, activated the EarthKam experiment and the seventh sample cylinder in the Protein Crystal Growth - Single-Locker Thermal Enclosure System, and tested the Zeolite Crystal Growth Furnace, which will be used to grow crystals beginning in April. In addition, Walz and Bursch prepared a set of three dosimeters each that will be used to measure any radiation they might receive during their scheduled Feb. 20 spacewalk. The dosimeters are part of the EVARM experiment, to better design future radiation shielding in spacesuits.

Starship 2040 at KSC
All employees are invited to visit Starship 2040, a traveling exhibit hosted by Marshall Space Flight Center. Housed in a 48-foot trailer, the exhibit enables you to experience what commercial spaceflight might be like in four decades. By walking through a mock-up of the spacecraft's control, passenger and engineering compartments, you will be able to imagine routine, commercial and public access to space and see illustrations of the technological advances now being made by NASA researchers and their partners in industry, academia and government. The trailer will be in front of the Headquarters Building in the Industrial area, east of the parking lot. The exhibit will be open from 3-5 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 14, and from 7:45 a.m.-5 p.m., Friday, Feb. 15.

The winner will be selected and notified on March 1 and announced in the KSC Daily News. Please submit one nomination per person to Tiffany Hines at Tiffany.Hines-1@ksc.nasa.gov by close of business on Feb. 22. For questions, please call 867-4205

Spring Break Day Camp
Enroll your children ages 8-14 in a day camp that lets them explore space like an astronaut -- Camp KSC Day Camp. Campers will launch their own rockets, ride a multi-axis trainer, meet an astronaut, tour restricted areas and much more. Spring break session is March 25-29. Summer sessions will be offered weekly June 3 to July 29. $260 tuition includes all programs, meals, T-shirt and supplies for five days of fun. All KSC, CCAFS and PAFB employees receive a 10% discount. Call KSC Visitor Complex at 449-4444 to register.

Did You Know?
Even the mighty Hubble Space Telescope can't easily see the first-born and most distant stars in our Universe. It needs a little help. So, astronomers recently pointed Hubble toward a distant cluster of light-bending galaxies, which magnify and amplify the light from faraway objects.
