KSC
Partnership Launches Space
Research Lecture Series
The NASA KSC Education Programs
and University Research Division is partnering with the Florida
Space Research Institute (FSRI) and Delaware North Park Services
of Spaceport, Inc., to provide a free Space Research Lecture Series.
The Florida Space Grant Consortium and the Florida Space Business
Roundtable are also co-sponsoring the Lecture Series.
The first lecture will be held Feb. 25 at 3 p.m. in the
Universe Theater of the KSC Visitor Complex featuring Dr. Holland
Ford of Johns Hopkins University. A reception will follow. Dr.
Ford is an astronomer with the Space Telescope Science Institute
and Principal Investigator for the Advanced Camera for Surveys
(ACS) instrument, which will be installed aboard the Hubble Space
Telescope during Shuttle mission STS-109, scheduled for launch
Feb. 28. Information on Dr. Ford and his research is available
at http://www.pha.jhu.edu/people/faculty/ford.html
.
Employees with supervisory approval, university faculty and students
are invited to participate in the lecture and reception. Seating
will be limited. For more information or to RSVP, e-mail eellegood@fsri.com
.
"The Lecture Series will feature world-class scientists who
launch their experiments into space from the Cape Canaveral Spaceport,"
said KSC Director Roy Bridges. "We'll also be able to focus
on other space research and technology topics of interest."
According to Florida Secretary of Education Jim Horne, "These
lecture events will promote working-level interaction between
NASA-sponsored scientists and Florida-based researchers. Our goal
is to increase Florida's academic involvement in space research
and technology development, to benefit NASA, military and commercial
programs."
