ELV
Update
The next scheduled ELV launches will be from Cape Canaveral Air
Force Station (CCAFS). The Galaxy Evolution Explorer (GALEX)
spacecraft, at the Orbital Space Systems Group facility in Dulles,
Va., is expected to be shipped to KSC for final processing in
mid-August. Meanwhile, at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California,
its Pegasus XL launch vehicle has completed processing and is
ready for ferry to KSC approximately two weeks after the arrival
of the GALEX spacecraft. Launch is no earlier than October.
The TDRS-J
(Tracking and Data Relay Satellite) spacecraft is anticipated
to arrive at KSC from the Boeing Satellite Systems plant in El
Segundo, Calif., Sept. 26. The launch is scheduled to occur on
Oct. 29; however, the launch window has not yet been determined.
The Lockheed Martin Atlas II launch vehicle for TDRS-J is at the
factory in Denver, Colo., undergoing final assembly. Arrival of
the booster at CCAFS is expected in mid-September.
The SOlar
Radiation and Climate Experiment (SORCE) spacecraft is
at the Orbital Space Systems Group spacecraft facility in Dulles,
Va., undergoing envi-ronmental testing. SORCE is scheduled to
arrive at KSC to begin final processing on Oct. 25 for a Dec.
1 launch. The Orbital Sciences Pegasus XL launch vehicle is undergoing
buildup and testing at Vandenberg Air Force Base. Two flight simulation
tests are scheduled while the vehicle is in California, one on
Oct. 1 and one on Oct. 9. The Pegasus is scheduled for ferry to
Cape Canaveral using the Orbital Sciences L-1011 aircraft on Oct.
28. Three flight simula-tion tests are also planned at KSC prior
to launch and are scheduled to occur on Nov. 1, Nov. 8 and Nov.

ISS
Update
Last week Commander
Valery Korzun and Flight Engineer Peggy Whitson commanded the Canadian-built
robotic arm to "walk off " its grapple fixture on the
Destiny lab and grapple a power and data fixture on the Mobile Base
System on the S0 truss. It was the first time the Canadarm2 has
been detached from Destiny since it was installed in April 2001.
Korzun and Whitson also completed a dry run of the S1 truss installation.
The S1 will be brought to the station during STS-112. On Friday,
the duo maneuvered the Canadarm2 onto several other MBS grapple
fixtures to give engineers on the ground the data they need to prepare
for the installation of both the S1 and P1 (STS-113) trusses. Launch
dates for the missions are under review.
