Hurricanes
and Work
Hurricane
Status "All-Clear" does not mean "return to work"!
The "All-Clear" simply means the wind/storm hazards
have subsided and it is now safe enough to begin recovery activities.
Many other hazards could be of concern: Power lines may be down
and energized. Natural gas lines may be ruptured and present major
fire/explosive hazards. Wild life may be encroaching in residential
areas, etc. You need to be ready to report and deal with these
and other hazards in your community. The general populace will
return to work when all the hazards have been mitigated. It may
be days or weeks before this happens, depending on the severity
of the damage caused by the storm. Return to work information
will be broadcast over local media (radio and television stations).
In addition, the same information will be available on our Hurricane
Information Hot line at 861-7900, and the Emergency Operations
Center Web site at http://ksc-eoc.ksc.nasa.gov/.
