Mission Update

The STS-112 crew arrived at KSC Sunday to finalize preparations for launch Wednesday, Oct. 2. Seen below are Mission Specialist Piers Sellers, Pilot Pamela Melroy, Commander Jeffrey Ashby, and Mission Specialists David Wolf, Sandra Magnus and cosmonaut Fyodor Yurchikhin. Sellers, Magnus and Yurchikhin are making their first Shuttle flights.

Support CFC in October
The 2002 Combined Federal Campaign at KSC kicks off 9 a.m. this morning with a rally at the Training Auditorium. Guest speakers scheduled are WESH-TV 2 news anchor Wendy Chioji and North/Central Brevard Salvation Army program coordinator of the Domestic Violence Program, Cindy Flachmeier. The campaign slogan this year is "Promoting Hope… Through Generosity." KSC chairperson of the CFC campaign is Robert Mott, with the Shuttle Processing Directorate. The 2002 campaign will end Oct. 31.


Reminder: Spaceport Super Safety & Health Day
The fourth annual Spaceport Super Safety & Health Day will take place Oct.23. The day's events will kick off at 8 a.m. at the KSC Training Auditorium and will feature John Drebinger Jr. as keynote speaker. Afternoon activities will feature a multitude of vendors and exhibits at several locations, astronaut appearances, and a health fair/open house at the KSC Fitness Center. Influenza Immunizations
The influenza season in Florida will be here in the next few months. Influenza immunization is especially important to those people with known heart, lung, or kidney problems, diabetes, anemia or a reduced body resistance to infection. The schedule at the KSC clinics begins Sept. 23 as follows: Occupational Health Facility, (KSC Industrial Area), Monday - Friday, 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; Launch Area Clinic, (KSC LC-39 Area, MFF Facility) Monday - Friday, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.



Did You Know?
You Can Tour Industrial Area Chiller Plant, M7-407 The Industrial Area Chiller Plant (IACP) is operated on a continuous 24/7 a year schedule. This facility is the highest consumer of energy in the Industrial Area (IA). The IACP supplies chilled water to all major IA facilities that include Space Station Processing Facility, Engineering Development Lab, Headquarters, Cargo Support, Operations & Checkout Facility, Occupational Health Facility, Central Instrumentation Facility, and the KSC Training Auditorium. The tours are scheduled for 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Oct. 16 and will last no more than an hour. Sign up now as space is limited -- you must have your supervisor's approval to attend the tours.
