Atlantis Launches!

The crew of Space Shuttle Atlantis are on their way to the International Space Station after a successful liftoff at 3:46 p.m. EDT yesterday. Their 11-day mission includes three planned spacewalks to install the S1 truss and the Crew and Equipment Translation Aid (CETA) Cart A, the first of two human-powered carts that will ride along the ISS railway, providing mobile work platforms for future spacewalking astronauts.



Fire Prevention Week
Oct. 6 - 12 is Fire Prevention Week. This year's theme is "Team Up For Fire Safety." KSC Fire Prevention is promoting fire safety via displays on the benefit and use of residential fire sprinkler systems, etc. Schedule for the balance of the week: Tuesday, CCAFS, Navy Station "Green House," 10:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. Wednesday, KSC MFF Cafeteria, 10:45 a.m. - 1 p.m. Thursday, CCAFS, Cape Cafeteria, 10:30 a.m. - 1p.m. Friday, KSC Child Development Center, 10:30 a.m. - Noon.


Save Lids to Save Lives
Yoplait will make a 10-cent donation to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, up to $750,000, along with their guaranteed donation of $750,000, for every pink lid from Yoplait yogurt cups or six-packs that is mailed back to them. Space Coast Chapter, Federally Employed Women, is participating in this project. So if you would also like to participate, look for the pink lids and send the cleaned lids to Vickie Hall, TA-B3, by Dec. 6. This is one project that doesn't take a lot of energy and you can participate in the fight against breast cancer. Mammograms at KSC/Screening For Breast Cancer
The Women's Center for Radiology (WCR) will have their Mobile Mammography Unit at KSC (southwest corner of the parking lot behind HQ Building), on Wednesday, Oct. 23, Super Safety and Health Day. WCR is accredited in mammography by the American College of Radiology and all mammograms are interpreted by Radiologists. Insurance can be filed. Call 1-800-367-1870 for an appointment and more information. If you have any questions, please call Carol Roth, administrator, KSC Health Education & Wellness Program, 867-3414.


Did You Know?
Spaceport Super Safety & Health Day, scheduled for Oct. 23, will feature John Drebinger Jr. as keynote speaker. The event will kick off at 8 a.m. at the KSC Training Auditorium. Afternoon activities will include a multitude of vendors/ exhibitors, astronaut visits, and an Open House at the O&C KSC Fitness Center.
