Update
The next launch
scheduled is the Galaxy Evolution Explorer (GALEX) aboard a Pegasus
XL rocket from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station March 25. The
Pegasus is planned for ferry to CCAFS on an L-1011 aircraft Feb.
18. GALEX is a NASA UV imaging and spectroscopic survey mission
designed to map the global history and probe the causes of star
formation and its evolution over the ultraviolet range. Following
GALEX will be the launch of the Propulsive Small Expendable Deployer
System (ProSEDS) aboard a Delta II rocket March 29 from CCAFS.
ProSEDS is a tether-based propulsion experiment that draws power
from the space environment around Earth, allowing the transfer
of energy from Earth to the spacecraft.
KSC
Crisis Hotline
Because
of the tragedy of the STS-107 Columbia mission, some employees
may want to speak with a counselor. The KSC Employee Assistance
Program (EAP) has set up a crisis hotline at 867-7398. Calling
that number will provide contact information for counseling.

Program to be held March 12 and repeated March 13, 2003, at the
Cocoa Beach Holiday Inn. The cost for the one-day Seminar is $79

Keep
Your Energy Bill Out of Hot Water Water heating can
be expensive, but there are a number of ways to lower
your costs: 1) Use less water. Repair leaky faucets
immediately and use low-flow shower heads. (A family of
four, each showering for five minutes a day, uses 700
gallons of water a week; cut that amount in half by using
low-flow aerating shower heads.) 2) Insulate your
hot-water storage tank and pipes, and drain a quart of
water from your water tank every three months to remove
sediment (follow the manufacturer's advice). 3)
Lower the thermostat on your water heater to 115 degrees;
water heaters sometimes come from the factory with higher
temperature settings than are necessary. 4) When
buying a new water heater, compare EnergyGuide labels
to find an energy-efficient model. For more tips on saving
energy at home, visit the Web site http://www.energysavers.gov
