Take Our Children to Work Day
On July 24. NASA and participating KSC contractor employees are
invited to bring a son or daughter, grandchild, niece, or nephew
to work with them to share the work experience. Only children age
9 to 15 may participate. Program hours will be from 7 a.m. to 4:30

a controlled access badge.
The Federal Women's Program Working Group (FWPWG) members will issue

employees working on CCAFS can contact Peggy Parrish, located at
Hangar I Annex, at 476-4000 for badging during the same dates/times.
Participating KSC contractors should contact their Public Affairs
Office or Human Resources Office representative to determine if
their organization is participating and to obtain badges.
Follow-Up:
Merrymakers win it all
Troy Heron, an orbiter logistics engineer in Shuttle Processing,
was featured in Spaceport News June 13 as a mentor for
a group of Merritt Island students competing in a national engineering
and science fair. The all-girl Merritt Island Merrymakers participated
in the Great Toy Challenge with their toy, “Wet Your Pants!”
Heron
reports that the final competition was held in Northampton, Mass.,
and the girls swept the top three prizes! They won the best in
their category (“Get Out and Play” outdoor games and
toys), the “Challenge Choice Award,” which was decided
via balloting by all the children attending the event, and the
Grand Prize, a week at Space Camp in Huntsville, Ala., for each
of the team members! This was an outstanding result of the hard
work that the girls put in since last October! Heron reports the
team and toy were featured on ABC's Good Morning America,
whose staff set the toy up on the sidewalk outside the studios
in New York and actually played it!

Motorcycle Helmet Countdown Reminder
Effective at midnight Sunday, July 6, motorcycle riders and their
passengers will not be allowed to enter the Kennedy Space Center
controlled area without DOT-approved helmets. Furthermore, driving
without a helmet in the KSC controlled area will result in a KSC
citation, which carries a penalty of 3 points against KSC/CCAFS
driving privileges.

You Know?
You are in danger from lightning if you can hear
thunder. Thunder means lightning is close enough
that it could strike your location at any moment.
Even when the sky looks blue and clear, be cautious.
Lightning can travel sideways for up to 10 miles. At least
10% of lightning occurs without visible clouds in the
sky.
