ELV Update
After the successful launch Tuesday (below) of the first Mars Exploration Rover, attention at KSC shifts to launch of the second rover, which will be designated MER-B for liftoff. The rovers have been given individual names as a result of a contest among school children. Nine-year-old Sofi Collis, from Scottsdale, Ariz., was selected the winner with the names Spirit and Opportunity. Spirit is on its way to Mars; Opportunity is next with a June 25 launch date.

NASA Web Site Wins Webby
The NASA Web portal and Earth Observatory web sites both received a Webby Award — the leading international honor for the world's best web sites. The NASA Web portal won in the Government + Law category, and Earth Observatory won in the Education category. In addition, both sites won The People's Voice Award in their categories.

Considering teaching?
Professionals with backgrounds in math and science are being recruited for a new program at UCF designed to help transition into the teaching arena. The program, designated T-MAST, or Transition to Math and Science Teaching, is the result of collaborative planning be-tween Lockheed Martin, Orange County Public Schools, and the university’s College of Education. Candidates enrolling in T-MAST will have established subject matter expertise in math and science through earlier career work. T-MAST courses will provide the knowledge and understanding of proven and promising teaching practices. Program graduates will receive a master’s degree in mathematics or science education. If interested in applying or learning more about T-MAST, please call Michael Haynes at the UCF College of Education at 407-823-6076 or e-mail hynes@mail.ucf.edu.

More Education
The University of Miami will begin accepting applications for the master of science degree in management of technology (MSMOT) starting in the fall 2003 semester. Courses are held Friday evenings and Saturdays to accommodate working professionals. Apply now to start in August 2003 in Brevard County. For more information and to receive an application/brochure, please call Augusto Roca, program administrator, at 1-305-284-4100 or send e-mail to augusto@miami.edu.
