Message
from Center Director
"In keeping with our guiding principle of safety and health
first, KSC has chosen to pursue a policy of requiring the usage
of motorcycle helmets inside the KSC controlled areas. When considering
motorcycle safety, it is clear that those driving without helmets
are at greater risk than those who take the precaution of wearing
them
. For this reason, a new requirement that motorcycle
helmets must be worn while driving or riding as a motorcycle passenger
inside the controlled areas (secured gates) of KSC will be implemented.
Before requirements are levied, there will be a transition and
warning period, and we will be taking steps to ensure the requirements
are known
before initiating action to enforce them. Because a number of
you may have concerns or issues related to this important issue,
I have scheduled a meeting on May 8 at 2:30 p.m. in the Training
Auditorium for all interested parties, NASA and Contractor alike,
where we can discuss this requirement in an open forum."
