KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, Fla. -– With the Rotating Service Structure rolled back, Space Shuttle Endeavour is revealed, poised for launch on mission STS-100 at 2:41 p.m. EDT April 19. It sits on the Mobile Launcher Platform, which straddles the flame trench below that helps deflect the intense heat of launch. Made of concrete and refractory brick, the trench is 490 feet long, 58 feet wide and 40 feet high. Situated above the external tank is the Gaseous Oxygen Vent Arm with the “beanie cap,” a vent hood. On this ninth construction flight to the International Space Station, Endeavour carries the Canadarm, which will be installed on the Space Station during this mission, and the Multi-Purpose Logistics Module Raffaello.
