Image: Montage of Vehicle Assembly Building with American Flag and shuttles landing.KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, Fla. -– After failing to reestablish communi-cations with Shuttle Columbia as it descended into Earth's atmosphere, Mission Control in Houston made a contingency announcement. The 16-day research mission will include FREESTAR (Fast Reaction Experiments Enabling Science, Technology, Applications and Research) and the SHI Research Double Module (SHI/RDM), known as SPACEHAB. Experiments on the module range from material sciences to life sciences.
