Shuttle Mission: STS-110
Orbiter: Atlantis
Date: April 8

"All eyes and imaginations have Image: Montage of images including the Space Shuttle and American Flag
been focused on the assembly of the International Space Station, since the first Space Station mission launch in 1998. And today, the seven-member crew and Atlantis are ready to leave our Earthly confines and embark on an 11-day mission.

Aboard Atlantis are the S0 Truss Segment and the Mobile Transporter. The two payloads will work together like a railroad and railcar allowing the Station's robotic arm to ride along the truss to perform assembly and maintenance work.
This new component, which will be installed during four space walks, will be the centerpiece of the Station's exterior framework and will set the stage for future expansion and research.

This 13th International Space Station mission is indeed another historic opportunity to watch the orbiting outpost--as the dream of people living and working together in space comes one step closer to reality."
