KENNEDY
SPACE CENTER, Fla. – Three days before their scheduled launch
aboard Space Shuttle Atlantis, the six-member STS-112 crew arrived
at Kennedy Space Center's Shuttle Landing Facility for final
launch preparations. The crew is commanded by Jeff Ashby and
piloted by Pam Melroy. Mission specialists include: David Wolf,
Piers Sellers, Sandra Magnus and Fyodor Yurchikhin. On STS-112,
Atlantis will carry the S1 Truss, the first starboard segment
in the International Space Station's massive backbone. Astronauts
Wolf and Sellers will participate in three spacewalks to install
the S1 Truss to the Station's central truss segment, S-Zero.
As the clock ticks down toward liftoff, the crew will spend
time their remaining time reviewing their flight plans and flying
in the Shuttle Training Aircraft, a plane outfitted with a cockpit
like that of the Shuttle.
