Delta-230/XTE
Complex 17, Pad A

The launch of a Delta II rocket with the X-Ray Timing Explorer (XTE) is currently scheduled for Dec. 10. On Saturday during the vehicle’s Simulated Flight test, McDonnell Douglas engineers found a problem with a first stage vernier engine position actuator. This is part of the hydraulic system for the vernier engine on the first stage which controls the trajectory of the vehicle during flight. The actuator has been removed and replaced and is currently undergoing re-testing.

The nose fairing will be installed around the XTE spacecraft later this week.

The launch window on Sunday, Dec. 10 is 9:38 a.m. to 11:02 a.m. EST.
