KSC SPACE SHUTTLE STATUS REPORT Thursday, August 10, 1995 Vehicle: OV-105/Endeavour Mission number: STS-69 Location: VAB High Bay 1 Primary payload: Wake Shield Facility/Spartan 201-3 Astronauts: 5 Orbital altitude: 230 statute miles Inclination: 28.45 degrees Mission Duration: 10 days, 20 hours, 29 minutes Launch date: late August Landing date: TBD STS-69 IN WORK: · Main engine Frequency Response Test STS-69 WORK SCHEDULED: · Begin solid rocket booster work by removing nozzle throat plugs (Friday) STS-69 WORK COMPLETED: · Scaffolding build-up for upcoming solid rocket booster work Columbia/OV-102 (STS-73) U.S. Microgravity Laboratory-2 OPF Bay 3 Testing of the Ku-band communications and radar system has been completed. Preparations continue for removing Columbia’s #2 main engine which is now scheduled to begin on Friday. Aft main engine compartment closeouts in preparation for Columbia’s rollover to the Vehicle Assembly Building are continuing. During payload bay cleaning a ding was found in payload bay door radiator #3. It will receive ultrasound and x-ray testing to assure that the radiator has not been damaged and will then undergo a ding repair procedure. Payload bay door closure will be rescheduled after this work is complete. What impact this will have to the current rollover target date, if any, is being assessed. Atlantis/OV-104 (STS-74) Russian Docking Module OPF Bay 2 Functional tests of the orbital maneuvering system and the auxiliary power units are continuing. The forward reaction control system has been removed and was taken to the hypergolic maintenance facility last night. It will be reinstalled on the orbiter in about three weeks. The payload bay of Atlantis is being reconfigured for the Russian Docking Module. In the Vehicle Assembly Building, stacking of the solid rocket booster propellant segments is now scheduled to begin on Friday. Modifications to the orbiter docking system’s electrical system are being performed. In the Space Station Processing Facility, a final pressure test of the Russian Docking Module is being performed today and will be followed with module closeouts in preparation for moving it to the Operations and Checkout building on Friday, Aug. 18. Discovery/OV-103 (ferry flight preparations) OPF Bay 1 Preparations for removing the three main engines are underway. Preparations are also occurring for removing the forward reaction control system. The No. 3 fuel cell is being removed and replaced. Discovery’s 747 ferry flight to Palmdale is planned for on or about Oct. 1.
