SPACEHAB-3

MISSION DURATION: 8 days, 5 hours, 27 minutes
ORBITAL ALTITUDE and INCLINATION: 196-245 statute miles/51.60 degrees

NOTE: The solid rocket booster retrieval ships reached the spent boosters
shortly after splashdown Friday morning but due to seas 10-12 feet and
winds up to 30 knots, recovery operations were delayed until Sunday. Winds
on Sunday increased up to 50 knots and hampered recovery and tow operations.
Due to the severe conditions, some damage occurred to both boosters’ forward
skirts. Also, the left hand frustum and parts of the left hand forward skirt
were lost during recovery operations. The recovery ships with the boosters
in tow are scheduled to arrive at Port Canaveral early this afternoon.
Marshall engineers will assess damages when the boosters are on dock at
hangar AF.

NOTE: The orbiter Endeavour was mated to the external tank Friday and the
Shuttle interface test in now in work in Vehicle Assembly Building high bay
3. During power up testing, it was discovered that thruster R3A was leaking.
The oxidizer manifold was deselected and the thruster capped. The system
will be repressurized to 65 psi today.

NOTE: Both Freon coolant loops on Atlantis are being deserviced in order to
change-out a Freon/water interchanger. A slight bulge or blister was
discovered on the interchanger’s face plate when technicians were preparing
to close-out the bay 1 area. Potential impacts to Atlantis’ OPF schedule
are being assessed.
