KENNEDY SPACE CENTER SPACE SHUTTLE STATUS REPORT FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 10, 1995 (12:22 PM EST) MISSION: STS-74 -- 2nd MIR DOCKING (Docking Module) LAUNCH - 1 DAY VEHICLE: Atlantis/OV-104 LOCATION: Pad 39A TARGET LAUNCH DATE/TIME: Nov. 11 at about 7:56 a.m. LAUNCH WINDOW: 7 minutes TARGET MIR DOCKING DATE/TIME: Nov. 14 at about 2:20 a.m. TARGET KSC LANDING DATE/TIME: Nov. 19 at about 1:25 p.m. MISSION DURATION: 8 days, 5 hours CREW SIZE: 5 ORBITAL ALTITUDE and INCLINATION: 196-245 statute miles/51.6 degrees NOTE: The countdown for launch of Atlantis continues on schedule today for liftoff on Saturday, Nov. 11. The seven-minute window opens at about 7:56 a.m. The exact window will be announced about 90 minutes prior to launch following final computation of the location of Mir space station. Atlantis is scheduled to land at KSC’s Shuttle Landing Facility at about 1:25 p.m. Nov. 19. No technical issues or concerns are being discussed by the mission management team or by NASA engineers. The Docking Module located in Atlantis’ payload bay was powered-up for a final state-of-health check yesterday and no problems were identified. Today, final mid-deck payload loading operations will be completed and the rotating service structure will be retracted to launch position at about 1:30 p.m., pending weather. Loading of the external tank with cryogenic propellants is scheduled to begin at about 10:36 p.m. Air Force weather forecasters are indicating a 30 percent probability of weather prohibiting launch on Saturday. The primary concern is for possible cloudiness and ceiling below 6,000 feet. Also, there remains a concern for marginal weather at the trans-Atlantic landing sites in Spain and Africa. During Saturday’s launch window, the winds at KSC’s Pad A are expected to be from the south-southeast at 7 -12 knots; temperature 70 degrees F; visibility 7 miles; humidity 81 percent; and clouds scattered at 3,000 feet and broken at 25,000 feet. The 24-hour-delay forecast reveals similar conditions and a 40 percent chance of violation. NOTE: For additional details regarding STS-74 countdown milestones, please refer to KSC Release No. 121-95.
