DISCOVERY/OV-103 -- Pre-Orbiter Maintenance Down Period

VEHICLE: Discovery/OV-103
LOCATION: Orbiter Processing Facility bay 1
DATE OF DEPARTURE FOR PALMDALE, CALIF.: Sept. 26

NOTE: Discovery is being prepared for delivery to Palmdale, Calif.,
for a nine-month Orbiter Maintenance Down Period (OMDP). During this
time, the vehicle will be outfitted with a 5th set of cryogenic tanks
and an external airlock to support missions to the international
Space Station.

	In the OPF, the protective tail cone has been installed on
the vehicle and the operation to place Discovery on the orbiter
transporter is in work today.Discovery will be towed from the OPF to
the Shuttle Landing Facility at about 5:30 a.m. Monday and mated to
the 747 Shuttle Carrier Aircraft (SCA).

	Discovery, atop the 747 SCA, is scheduled to depart KSC at 7
a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 26.  Current plans call for Discovery to make a
brief refueling stop at Ft. Worth Naval Air Station in Texas,  then
continue to Salt Lake City, Utah, where it will remain overnight.
Discovery is scheduled to depart Salt Lake City early Wednesday
morning and arrive at Palmdale early Wednesday afternoon, local time.

	Discovery is scheduled to return to KSC in June 1996. Its
next flight, the second mission to service the Hubble Space
Telescope, is targeted for launch in early 1997.
