KENNEDY SPACE CENTER SPACE SHUTTLE STATUS REPORT FERRY FLIGHT UPDATE April 12, 1996 12:35 PM Ferry flight status #6 The orbiter Atlantis riding atop the modified 747 Shuttle Carrier Aircraft (SCA) departed Eglin AFB, Fla., at about 12:22 p.m. EDT today, en route to KSC. Arrival at KSC's Shuttle Landing Facility is estimated at about 1:30 p.m. Standard flight plans call for the SCA pilots to fly over the central Brevard Country beach areas prior to touchdown, if weather and fuel consumption permits. Once at KSC, the orbiter will be demated from the SCA and towed to Orbiter Processing Facility bay 1. Towing operations are expected to begin Saturday morning. No significant impacts to the overall schedule for Atlantis' next flight, STS-79, is anticipated due to the unexpected delay in Atlantis returning back to KSC for processing.
