MISSION: STS-79 -- 4th MIR DOCKING & SPACEHAB DM

VEHICLE: Atlantis/OV-104
LOCATION:  Orbiter Processing Facility bay 3
TARGET LAUNCH DATE/TIME: September 12 at about 6:26 a.m. (EDT)
LAUNCH WINDOW: 7-10 minutes
TARGET KSC LANDING DATE/TIME: September 21 at about 11:30 a.m.
MISSION DURATION: 9 days, 5 hours
CREW SIZE: 6
ORBITAL ALTITUDE and INCLINATION: 196-245 statute miles/51.6 degrees

NOTE: Atlantis will remain on the orbiter transporter in the Orbiter
Processing Facility until next week when it is scheduled to be
returned to the VAB and mated with the new set of solid rocket
boosters and external tank. The Spacehab (image) destow is complete and
pressure decay checks are now in work.

	The external tank was demated today from STS-79's original
set of SRBs. Destacking of the boosters is expected to begin as early
as Monday.

KEY STS-79 OPERATIONAL MILESTONES (dates are target only):
Transport orbiter back to VAB and mate to new set of SRBs (Aug. 13)
Roll out Space Shuttle to Pad 39A (Aug. 20)
STS-79 Terminal Countdown Demonstration Test (Aug. 27-28)

LAUNCH WINDOW: 2 hours, 20 minutes
TARGET KSC LANDING DATE/TIME: (no earlier than) Nov. 16 at 7:25 a.m.
MISSION DURATION: 16 days
CREW SIZE: 5
ORBITAL ALTITUDE and INCLINATION: 218 statute miles/28.45 degrees

NOTE: Removal of Space Shuttle main engines is expected to begin
tonight. Installation of the STS-80 main engines are scheduled to
begin next Wednesday.

Begin removing Space Shuttle main engines (tonight)
Complete installation of STS-80 main engines (about Aug. 15)

NOTE: Auxiliary power unit hook-ups are scheduled to begin tonight as
preparations to install the right hand orbital maneuvering system pod
continue. The pod is scheduled to be installed early next week.

KEY OPERATIONAL MILESTONES (dates are target only):
Installation of right hand orbital maneuvering system pod (Aug. 13)
Remote manipulator system installation complete (Aug. 20)
Install forward reaction control system (about Aug. 30)
