      KENNEDY SPACE CENTER SPACE SHUTTLE STATUS REPORT SATURDAY, MARCH 9, 1996 (11:29 AM EST) KSC Public Affairs Contact: Bruce Buckingham (fax 407-867-2692) E-mail: Bruce.Buckingham-1@kmail.ksc.nasa.gov MISSION: STS-75 -- TETHERED SATELLITE-1R & USMP-3 Flight Day 17 -- LANDING DAY VEHICLE: Columbia/OV-102 LOCATION: Shuttle Landing Facility OFFICIAL LAUNCH DATE/TIME: Feb. 22 at 3:18 p.m. EST OFFICIAL KSC LANDING DATE/TIME: March 9 at 8:58:21 a.m. EST * MISSION DURATION: 15 days, 17 hours, 40 minutes, 21 seconds CREW SIZE: 7 * change from earlier status NOTE: The orbiter Columbia landed safely today on Kennedy Space Center’s Shuttle Landing Facility runway 33 at 8:58 a.m. About 3 hours, 30 minutes after touchdown, ground crews will tow Columbia to Orbiter Processing Facility bay 2. Tow operations should take about 1 hour to complete. Once in the OPF, post-flight deservicing will begin and preparations will be made for Columbia’s next mission, STS-78, scheduled for launch in June. The current post-landing schedule indicates the payload bay doors will be open on March 12 and the Tethered Satellite System and United States Microgravity Payloads removed on March 15. Transport to the Operations and Checkout Building will occur the next day. Preliminary post-landing inspections of Columbia reveal the tires and brakes to be in good condition. Tile damage will be assessed later today and tomorrow. Touchdown times are as follows: MET EST MAIN GEAR TOUCHDOWN 15:17:40:21 8:58:21 a.m. NOSE GEAR TOUCHDOWN 15:17:40:36 8:58:36 a.m. WHEELS STOP 15:17:41:25 8:59:25 a.m. Columbia landed on orbit 252 after traveling 6.5 million miles in orbit on mission STS-75. This was the 29th KSC landing in the history of the Shuttle program. The STS-75 crew are: Commander Andy Allen; Pilot Scott Horowitz; Mission Specialists Jeff Hoffman, Maurizo Cheli, Claude Nicollier, and Franklin Chang-Diaz; and Payload Specialist Umberto Guidoni.
