The Rotating Service Structure has been placed around the vehicle and pad validations are underway. Also, preparations to perform the main engine flight readiness test are in work. Additional closed-bay work is expected to be conducted off and on through most of this week. The Space Shuttle main engines will be installed this weekend. KEY STS-79 OPERATIONAL MILESTONES (dates are target only): Install Space Shuttle main engines (June 1) Install Spacehab tunnel adapter (June 4) MISSION: STS-77 -- SPACEHAB-4; SPARTAN 207 (IAE); TEAMS VEHICLE: Endeavour/OV-105 LOCATION: Orbiter Processing Facility bay 3 OFFICIAL STS-77 LAUNCH DATE/TIME: May 19 at 6:30 a.m. (EDT) OFFICIAL KSC LANDING DATE/TIME: May 29 at 7:09 a.m. MISSION DURATION: 10 days, 0 hours, 39 minutes NOTE: Following yesterday's successful KSC landing, the 30th in the history of the Shuttle program, Endeavour was towed to Orbiter Processing Facility bay 3 for post-mission servicing. In the OPF, work today includes removing the residual cryogenic reactants from the orbiter's power reactant storage and distribution system tanks. Tomorrow the payload bay doors will be opened and next week work will begin to remove the payloads and the Spacehab tunnel adapter. The tunnel adapter will be delivered to OPF bay 1 and installed into the orbiter Atlantis. Over the next 60 days, Endeavour will be prepared for its first Orbiter Maintenance Down Period (OMDP) which involves sending the orbiter to Palmdale, CA, for about eight months of major modifications and structural inspections. Endeavour's next mission will be the first International Space Station assembly Space Shuttle flight, scheduled for launch from KSC in late 1997.
