Work to replace windows No. 3 and 4 and tile rework is complete. KEY STS-80 OPERATIONAL MILESTONES (dates are target only): * Roll Columbia to Vehicle Assembly Building and mate with external tank (today) * Deliver payload to Pad 39B (targeted for Oct. 10) * Roll-out to Pad 39B (Oct. 16) * Terminal Countdown Demonstration Test (Oct. 22 - 23) MISSION: STS-81 -- 5th MIR DOCKING & SPACEHAB DM (image) VEHICLE: Atlantis/OV-104 LOCATION: Orbiter Processing Facility bay 3 TARGET KSC LAUNCH DATE/TIME: Jan. 12, 1997 at about 4:17 a.m. (EST) LAUNCH WINDOW: 7-10 minutes TARGET KSC LANDING DATE/TIME: Jan. 21, 1997 at about 8:40 a.m. MISSION DURATION: 9 days (+1) CREW: Baker, Jett, Grunsfeld, Ivins, Wisoff, Linenger (up) Blaha (down) ORBITAL ALTITUDE and INCLINATION: 184 statute miles/51.6 degrees NOTE: Auxiliary power unit No. 2 was shipped to the vendor yesterday for analysis. Work to remove and replace APUs No. 1 and 3 continue. The left hand radiator inspection is complete and functional tests are scheduled for next week. Orbital maneuvering system functional checkout is in work. In the VAB bay 1, the left forward center segment of STS-81’s SRB stack was mated to the left aft segment by 2:22 a.m. today. Yesterday afternoon NASA managers discussed the possibility of rainwater being present in the left aft segment and decided to proceed with work to mate the two segments. A decision was also made to conduct further inspections of the nozzle case joint in the left aft segment after the right SRB stacking operations are complete. Preliminary inspections at KSC have revealed no water concerns. KEY STS-81 OPERATIONAL MILESTONES (dates are target only): * Remove Space Shuttle main engines (Oct. 24) * Install Space Shuttle main engines (Nov. 5) MISSION: STS-82 -- HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE SERVICING MISSION-2 VEHICLE: Discovery/OV-103 LOCATION: Orbiter Processing Facility bay 2 TARGET LAUNCH DATE/TIME: February 13, 1997 at 2:59 a.m. LAUNCH WINDOW: 61 minutes TARGET KSC LANDING DATE/TIME: February 23, 1997 at 1:35 a.m. MISSION DURATION: 9 days, 22 hours CREW: Bowersox, Horowitz, Lee, Hawley, Harbaugh, Smith, Tanner ORBITAL ALTITUDE and INCLINATION: 360 statute miles/28.45 degrees NOTE: Fuel cell and power reactant storage and distribution system tests are in work today. Interface verification tests of the forward reaction control system continue. The main propulsion system liquid oxygen leak checks and functional checkout continues. Water coolant loop servicing continues with leak checks today and close-out tomorrow.
