Work to soft mate the orbiter to the external tank in hi-bay 3 continues with a hard mate expected tonight. Umbilical mating is planned for tomorrow. KEY STS-80 OPERATIONAL MILESTONES (dates are target only): * Deliver vertical payloads to Pad 39B (first motion tonight) * Roll-out to Pad 39B (Oct. 16) * Terminal Countdown Demonstration Test (Oct. 22 - 23) MISSION: STS-81 -- 5th MIR DOCKING & SPACEHAB DM (image) VEHICLE: Atlantis/OV-104 LOCATION: Orbiter Processing Facility bay 3 TARGET KSC LAUNCH DATE/TIME: Jan. 12, 1997 at about 4:17 a.m. (EST) LAUNCH WINDOW: 7-10 minutes TARGET KSC LANDING DATE/TIME: Jan. 21, 1997 at about 8:40 a.m. MISSION DURATION: 9 days (+1) CREW: Baker, Jett, Grunsfeld, Ivins, Wisoff, Linenger (up) Blaha (down) ORBITAL ALTITUDE and INCLINATION: 184 statute miles/51.6 degrees NOTE: Work to remove APUs No. 1 and 3 is complete and reinstallation is in work. Radiator inspection is complete and functional tests are scheduled for next week. Orbital maneuvering system functional checkout and the Shuttle’s main propulsion system helium system checkout continues. Preparations for fuel cell voltage tests are in work. Joint close-outs continue on the mated left aft and left forward center segments of STS-81’s SRB stack. Booster stacking operations will resume with the right hand SRB following the arrival of the right aft segment in the VAB on Friday. KEY STS-81 OPERATIONAL MILESTONES (dates are target only): * Remove Space Shuttle main engines (Oct. 24) * Install Space Shuttle main engines (Nov. 5) MISSION: STS-82 -- HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE SERVICING MISSION-2 VEHICLE: Discovery/OV-103 LOCATION: Orbiter Processing Facility bay 2 TARGET LAUNCH DATE/TIME: February 13, 1997 at 2:59 a.m. LAUNCH WINDOW: 61 minutes TARGET KSC LANDING DATE/TIME: February 23, 1997 at 1:35 a.m. MISSION DURATION: 9 days, 22 hours CREW: Bowersox, Horowitz, Lee, Hawley, Harbaugh, Smith, Tanner ORBITAL ALTITUDE and INCLINATION: 360 statute miles/28.45 degrees NOTE: Fuel cell and power reactant storage and distribution system tests continue. The interface verification test of the forward reaction control system is complete. The main propulsion system liquid oxygen leak checks and functional checkout continues. Water spray boiler leak and functional checkout continues.
