The orbiter will be powered up shortly after midnight Sunday for a Shuttle interface test scheduled to begin at 12:01 a.m. on Monday. The vertical payloads arrived at Pad 39B at about 2:31 a.m. today. The payload canister was lifted to the payload changeout room at about 5:30 a.m. and payload transfer will take place later this afternoon. KEY STS-80 OPERATIONAL MILESTONES (dates are target only): * Roll-out to Pad 39B (Oct. 16) * Terminal Countdown Demonstration Test (Oct. 22 - 23) MISSION: STS-81 -- 5th MIR DOCKING & SPACEHAB DM (image) VEHICLE: Atlantis/OV-104 LOCATION: Orbiter Processing Facility bay 3 TARGET KSC LAUNCH DATE/TIME: Jan. 12, 1997 at about 4:17 a.m. (EST) LAUNCH WINDOW: 7-10 minutes TARGET KSC LANDING DATE/TIME: Jan. 21, 1997 at about 8:40 a.m. MISSION DURATION: 9 days (+1) CREW: Baker, Jett, Grunsfeld, Ivins, Wisoff, Linenger (up) Blaha (down) ORBITAL ALTITUDE and INCLINATION: 184 statute miles/51.6 degrees NOTE: APU installation is complete. Orbital maneuvering system pod functional checkout continues and fuel cell voltage tests are in work. Joint close-outs continue on the mated left aft and left forward center segments of STS-81’s SRB stack in hi-bay 1. The right aft booster segment stacking is in work and preparations to stack next segment, the right forward center, are underway. KEY STS-81 OPERATIONAL MILESTONES (dates are target only): * Remove Space Shuttle main engines (Oct. 24) * Install Space Shuttle main engines (Nov. 5) MISSION: STS-82 -- HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE SERVICING MISSION-2 VEHICLE: Discovery/OV-103 LOCATION: Orbiter Processing Facility bay 2 TARGET LAUNCH DATE/TIME: February 13, 1997 at 2:59 a.m. LAUNCH WINDOW: 61 minutes TARGET KSC LANDING DATE/TIME: February 23, 1997 at 1:35 a.m. MISSION DURATION: 9 days, 22 hours CREW: Bowersox, Horowitz, Lee, Hawley, Harbaugh, Smith, Tanner ORBITAL ALTITUDE and INCLINATION: 360 statute miles/28.45 degrees NOTE: Fuel cell and power reactant storage and distribution system tests continue. The main propulsion system leak checks and functional checkout are complete. Preparations are underway to install Space Shuttle main engines 1, 2, and 3 on Monday morning.
