MISSION: STS-82 -- HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE SERVICING MISSION-2
      • VEHICLE: Discovery/OV-103
      • LOCATION: Orbit
      • OFFICIAL LAUNCH DATE/TIME: February 11 at 3:55:17 a.m.
      • LAUNCH WINDOW: 65 minutes
      • TARGET KSC LANDING DATE/TIME: February 21 at 1:30 a.m.
      • MISSION DURATION: 9 days, 21 hours, 34 minutes
      • CREW: Bowersox, Horowitz, Lee, Hawley, Harbaugh, Smith, Tanner (image)
      • ORBITAL ALTITUDE and INCLINATION: 360 statute miles/28.45 degrees

NOTE: The countdown for launch of Discovery went smoothly and liftoff occurred on time at 3:55:17 a.m. EST. Discovery's mission is scheduled to last 10 days and end with a KSC landing at about 1:30 a.m. on Feb. 21.

Managers determined that the relatively small concentrations of oxygen in the orbiter's midbody were not significant enough to prohibit launch and the countdown proceeded without further concern.

Initial reports from Launch Pad 39A indicate no significant damage resulting from launch.

The solid rocket booster retrieval ships are on station with the boosters and will begin the process of preparing them for tow back to Cape Canaveral Air Station at first light.

The crew of mission STS-82 are: Commander Ken Bowersox; Pilot Scott Horowitz; Mission Specialists Joe Tanner, Steve Hawley, Greg Harbaugh, Mark Lee and Steve Smith.
