NOTE: The Space Shuttle Discovery landed safely today at Kennedy Space Center's Shuttle Landing Facility Runway 15 at 3:32 a.m. Mission managers gave Discovery's Commander Ken Bowersox the go ahead for deorbit maneuvers about 90 minutes earlier after having waved off the first KSC landing opportunity due to low clouds.

Discovery traveled about 4.1 million miles during its mission that lasted just under 10 full days in space. Landing occurred on orbit 150. Discovery was towed to Orbiter Processing Facility bay 2 beginning at about 6:45 a.m. and was spotted in the OPF before 8 a.m.

The crew of mission STS-82 (image) were taken to their quarters at KSC after touchdown where they met with their families and went through routine post-flight medical examinations. They will depart for their homes in Houston later today.

This landing marks the fourth nighttime landing of the Shuttle at Kennedy Space Center. It also marks the 35th landing at KSC in the history of Space Shuttle flight and the second landing at KSC this year.

A preliminary inspection of Discovery revealed the lower surface sustained a total of 45 hits of which nine had a major dimension of 1-inch or larger. The tires and brakes were reported to be in good condition for a landing on KSC's concrete runway. A more detailed assessment will be conducted this weekend.
