      • TARGET KSC LAUNCH DATE/TIME: Jan. 12, 1997 at about 4:27 a.m. EST
      • LAUNCH WINDOW: 7-10 minutes
      • DOCK WITH MIR: Jan. 14 at about 10:50 p.m. EST
      • TARGET KSC LANDING DATE/TIME: Jan. 22 at about 8:00 a.m. EST
      • MISSION DURATION: 10 days, 3 hours, 30 minutes
      • CREW: Baker, Jett, Grunsfeld, Ivins, Wisoff, Linenger (up), Blaha (down)
      • ORBITAL ALTITUDE and INCLINATION: 184 statute miles/51.6 degrees

      NOTE: Space Shuttle main engine functional tests are complete. The payload bay doors are open and payload operation close-outs continue. Functional tests on Atlantis’ C-hatch (EVA hatch) are complete, and the hatch is closed for flight.

      Work to close out the orbiter’s aft compartment will begin today, and countdown preparations will also pick up this afternoon.

      • MISSION DURATION: 9 days, 22 hours
      • CREW: Bowersox, Horowitz, Lee, Hawley, Harbaugh, Smith, Tanner
      • ORBITAL ALTITUDE and INCLINATION: 360 statute miles/28.45 degrees

      NOTE: Ku-band antenna system testing is in work. Discovery’s aft compartment close-outs continue. Work to waterproof Discovery begins tonight. In the VAB, external tank and SRB close-outs continue and preparations to mate the orbiter to the external tank will pick up on Monday.

      NOTE: Preparations are underway to open Columbia’s payload bay doors on Monday. STS-83 booster stacking operations continue in the VAB. The left aft center booster segment has been lifted into Hi-bay 1 and mating preparations are in work.
