      NOTE: Loading of hypergolic propellants aboard the Space Shuttle's onboard storage tanks is complete and the orbiter's aft compartment close-outs begin today. Over the weekend, technicians observed fluid on some of Discovery's aft tile. The freon fluid is suspected to have come from a ground coolant unit and clean-up work is complete. Engineers are evaluating the leak source and plan to resolve the issue in time for launch. The countdown is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. Aug. 4.

      • LAUNCH WINDOW: 7-10 minutes
      • TARGET KSC LANDING DATE/TIME: September 28 at about 5:51 a.m.
      • MISSION DURATION: 10 days, 4 hours, 9 minutes
      • CREW: Wetherbee, Bloomfield, Parazynski, Titov, Chretien, Lawrence (up), Foale (down)
      • ORBITAL ALTITUDE and INCLINATION: 160 nautical miles/51.6 degrees

      NOTE: The final portion of the Crew Equipment Interface Test (CEIT) and payload bay door cycling are complete. Installation of thermal protection tiles for the forward reaction control system will conclude next week, with 60 percent of the work complete to date. The Shuttle's aft engine compartment and crew module close-outs continue on schedule. Landing gear functional tests begin tomorrow. In the VAB, the external tank has been mated to the solid rocket boosters and close-outs continue.

      • MISSION DURATION: 15 days, 16 hours, 33 minutes

      NOTE: Post-flight inspections continue and removal of the MSL-1 Spacelab module is in work today. Once out of Columbia's cargo bay, the laboratory will be returned to the Operations and Checkout Building. Routine functional testing of the forward reaction control system continues through tomorrow. Leak checks and deservicing of an oxidizer cross-feed line will begin tomorrow.
