      Index of STS-83/STS-94 images

      • VEHICLE: Columbia/OV-102 (image)
      • LOCATION: Orbiter Processing Facility bay 1
      • TARGET KSC LAUNCH DATE/TIME: July 1 at 2:37 p.m.
      • LAUNCH WINDOW: 2 hours, 30 minutes
      • TARGET KSC LANDING DATE/TIME: July 17 at 7:23 a.m.
      • MISSION DURATION: 15 days, 16 hours, 46 minutes
      • CREW: Halsell, Still, Voss, Gernhardt, Thomas, Crouch and Linteris (image)
      • ORBITAL ALTITUDE and INCLINATION: 160 nautical miles/28.45 degrees

NOTE: Because of cracks on thermal protective tiles near Columbia's forward reaction control system, 12 tiles have been removed and additional tiles may be removed as inspections continue. The additional tile work is not expected to impact Columbia's planned roll out date of June 11, since a majority of the replacement work will be performed at the pad.

Close-out work in the orbiter's mid-body wraps up today and the Spacelab transfer tunnel installation begins this afternoon. Columbia's roll to the Vehicle Assembly Building is scheduled to occur no earlier than the evening of June 4.

STS-94 SCHEDULED OPERATIONAL MILESTONES (dates are target only):

      • Payload bay door closure (June 2)
      • Roll over to VAB for mate to external tank (no earlier than June 4)
      • Shuttle interface test (June 9-10)
      • Roll out to pad 39A (June 11)

      • LAUNCH WINDOW: 1 hour, 41 minutes
      • TARGET KSC LANDING DATE/TIME: August 18 at 7:27 a.m.
      • MISSION DURATION: 10 days, 20 hours, 48 minutes
      • CREW: Brown, Rominger, Davis, Curbeam, Robinson, Tryggvason
      • ORBITAL ALTITUDE and INCLINATION: 160 nautical miles/57 degrees

NOTE: Replacement of a joint seal on Shuttle main engine No. 3 is complete. That engine will be reinstalled today followed by leak checks. Close-outs of Discovery's aft engine compartment will pick-up next week. Mid-body close-outs continue on schedule. Solid rocket booster stacking operations continue in the Vehicle Assembly Building.

STS-85 SCHEDULED OPERATIONAL MILESTONES (dates are target only):

      • Crew equipment and interface test (June 13)

      MISSION: STS-86 -- 7th MIR DOCKING & SPACEHAB DM

      • VEHICLE: Atlantis/OV-104
      • LOCATION: Orbiter Processing Facility bay 3
      • TARGET KSC LAUNCH DATE/TIME: September 18 at about 1:39 a.m.
      • LAUNCH WINDOW: 10 minutes
      • TARGET KSC LANDING DATE/TIME: September 28 at 5:19 a.m.
      • MISSION DURATION: 10 days, 3 hours, 49 minutes
      • CREW: Wetherbee, Bloomfield, Parazynski, Titov, Chretien, Lawrence (up), Foale (down)
      • ORBITAL ALTITUDE and INCLINATION: 160 nautical miles/51.6 degrees

NOTE: Inspections of Atlantis' forward reaction control system thrusters continue today. Post flight inspections of the pyro-can assemblies in the orbiter's aft compartment were good, revealing only minimal wear on the bolt holes and fabricated parts. The fabricated parts were installed prior to the STS-84 launch to alleviate deformation of the assembly and performed well in flight.

Preparation to off-load hypergolic propellants from Atlantis' orbiter maneuvering system begins tonight. Preparations are also underway to support the removal of Spacehab from the payload bay early Monday morning.

STS-86 SCHEDULED OPERATIONAL MILESTONES (dates are target only):

      • Remove Spacehab (June 2)
      • Remove main engines (June 5)

      MISSION: STS-89 -- 8th MIR DOCKING & SPACEHAB DM
      • VEHICLE: Endeavour/OV-105
      • LOCATION: Vehicle Assembly Building bay No. 2
      • TARGET KSC LAUNCH DATE/TIME: January 15, 1998 at about 12:57 a.m.
      • LAUNCH WINDOW: 7 - 10 minutes
      • TARGET KSC LANDING DATE/TIME: January 24, 1998 at about 5:20 a.m.
      • MISSION DURATION: 9 days, 4 hours, 23 minutes
      • CREW: Wilcutt, Edwards, Dunbar, Anderson, Reilly, Wolf (up), Lawrence (down)
      • ORBITAL ALTITUDE and INCLINATION: 160 nautical miles/51.6 degrees

NOTE: Endeavour will remain in temporary storage in the VAB until Columbia is rolled out of OPF bay No. 3 and to the VAB for mating operations. Once the OPF is open, Endeavour will be moved over and processing will begin for mission, STS-89.
