      NOTE: The Space Shuttle Atlantis touched down on KSC's runway 15 at 5:55 p.m. EDT, bringing mission STS-86 to a successful conclusion. Mission managers opted to bring Atlantis and her crew home on KSC's first landing opportunity following a favorable weather forecast.

      Today's landing marked the 40th KSC landing in Shuttle history and the 11th consecutive landing in Florida. The orbiter landed on orbit 170 having traveled 4.2 million statute miles. The STS-86 crew will spend the night at KSC and depart for Houston tomorrow afternoon. Atlantis is scheduled to be towed to OPF bay 3 at about 2 a.m. tomorrow.

      NOTE: The Shuttle crew for STS-87 completed Crew Equipment Interface Test activities on Friday. Testing of the connectors on Columbia's fuel cell monitoring system is complete and fuel cell voltage tests are slated for Thursday. Close-outs continue in the midbody around-the-clock and the payload premate test is scheduled for tomorrow.

      NOTE: Leak and functional checks of Endeavour's three auxiliary power units concluded over the weekend. The orbiter's forward reaction control system electrical mates are complete and functional tests began at noon today. The right-hand orbital maneuvering system (OMS) pod arrived in OPF bay 1 Saturday and preparations are under way for installation tomorrow.

      In the midbody, orbiter docking system pyrotechnic checks were completed last week and docking mechanism checks are in work. With tunnel adapter installation complete, leak checks are now under way. Solid rocket booster stacking operations will begin today for STS-89 with the arrival of the left aft booster segment in the VAB.

      NOTE: Discovery remains in storage in VAB high bay 2 with the environmental control system purge equipment connected. The orbiter will remain in temporary storage until Oct. 27.
