KENNEDY SPACE CENTER SPACE SHUTTLE STATUS REPORT
      FRIDAY, AUGUST 13, 1999 (5:05 PM EDT)

MISSION: STS-99 -- SHUTTLE RADAR TOPOGRAPHY MISSION (SRTM)

      • VEHICLE: Endeavour/OV-105
      • LOCATION: OPF bay 2
      • TARGET KSC LAUNCH DATE/TIME: October 1999 (date TBD)
      • TARGET KSC LANDING DATE/TIME: October 1999 (date TBD)
      • LAUNCH WINDOW: 2 hours and 30 minutes
      • MISSION DURATION: 11 days, 4 hours and 5 minutes
      • CREW: Kregel, Gorie, Kavandi, Voss, Mohri, Thiele
      • ORBITAL ALTITUDE and INCLINATION: 126 nautical miles/57 degrees

NOTE: Following yesterday's decision to holdup Shuttle Endeavour's transfer to the Vehicle Assembly Building, workers moved the orbiter transport system out of Orbiter Processing Facility bay 2 today. Technicians will gain access to the orbiter's crew module today and begin preparations to open the payload bay doors tomorrow.

Shuttle engineers and technicians will meet tomorrow to develop a wiring inspection and preventative maintenance plan to be applied across the Shuttle fleet. Managers plan to begin removing the SRTM payload from the cargo bay late next week. Once the payload is removed, technicians will begin Endeavour's midbody wiring work. The additional work will delay the STS-99 launch to at least early October.

MISSION: STS-103 -- 3rd HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE SERVICING MISSION (HST-3)

      • VEHICLE: Discovery/OV-103
      • LOCATION: OPF bay 1
      • TARGET KSC LAUNCH DATE/TIME: Oct. 14, 1999 at 5:42 a.m. EDT (under review)
      • TARGET KSC LANDING DATE/TIME: Oct. 24, 1999 at 3:20 a.m. EDT
      • LAUNCH WINDOW: 42 minutes
      • MISSION DURATION: 9 days, 21 hours and 38 minutes
      • CREW: Brown, Kelly, Smith, Foale, Grunsfeld, Nicollier, Clervoy
      • ORBITAL ALTITUDE and INCLINATION: 317 nautical miles/28.45 degrees

NOTE: Shuttle managers have decided to employ the same wiring inspections and maintenance that are being planned for Endeavour across the Shuttle fleet. Since Discovery's payload bay is already accessible, maintenance efforts will likely begin early next week.

Technicians completed Shuttle main engine securing efforts this week. Main propulsion system and main engine leak checks are ongoing. Potable water servicing and external airlock hatch installation are in work. Forward reaction control system installation remains on schedule.

      MISSION: STS-101 -- 3rd INTERNATIONAL SPACE STATION FLIGHT - SPACEHAB DOUBLE MODULE/ICC

      • VEHICLE: Atlantis/OV-104
      • LOCATION: VAB bay 2
