Processing Note |

With Atlantis' rudder/speed brake power drive unit
now replaced, preliminary tests indicate a successful change-out. Tomorrow,
engineers will confirm that Shuttle Atlantis' entire hydraulic system is
functioning normally with a frequency response test of the orbiter's
aerosurfaces and main engines. Review of the test data will conclude early next
week.
Yesterday, workers completed efforts to replace
the hydraulic fluid discharge hose on auxiliary power unit No.1 and the
electronics box in the orbiter aft compartment. Sunday afternoon, engineers will
perform a hotfire test of the APU. Managers have decided to replace a gaseous
nitrogen quick disconnect on APU No. 2 next week as well. With a hypergolic
pressure test already scheduled as part of standard launch preparations next
week, no significant impact to the schedule is expected. Shuttle engineers
continue to evaluate the two minor liquid hydrogen line dings. Preliminary
analysis suggests that the lines will be acceptable for flight.
SPACEHAB early stow operations are complete and
flight crew equipment stowage begins Monday. Next week, engineers begin
preparations in the Launch Control Center to pickup the 43-hour launch countdown
at 7 p.m. on April 21.
