Orbiter Atlantis, the external tank and solid rocket
boosters are all mechanically and electrically connected, and the Shuttle
Interface Test concluded yesterday. Main engine No. 1 has been successfully
replaced and leak checks are now under way. Workers will also replace a
hydraulic pump on the right-hand booster hydraulic power unit today. This
planned effort was initially slated to occur at the launch pad, but managers are
taking advantage of an extended VAB stay. Space Shuttle Atlantis remains
scheduled for rollout to Launch Pad 39A Saturday at about 7 a.m.
Following the successful rollout of Shuttle
Atlantis, launch pad validations are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, and
engine heat shield installation occurs Sunday. The SPACEHAB payload is installed
in the payload change-out room at the pad and will be installed into the orbiter
Sunday.
