NOTE
KSC launch controllers are not working any significant problems and preparation continues on schedule for the launch of Shuttle Atlantis. Launch remains scheduled for 6:38 a.m. on May 18, pending range availability. This morning, operations began to load cryogenic reactants into Atlantis’ fuel cell storage tanks. The orbiter midbody umbilical unit will be demated this afternoon. This evening, the orbiter’s three main engines will undergo preparation for external tank loading activities.

Tomorrow morning, engineers will activate the orbiter’s communication system and the Rotating Service Structure moves to the park position at about 10:30 a.m. Atlantis’ external tank will be loaded with more than 500,000 gallons of liquid propellant tomorrow night.

Weather forecasters are currently predicting only a 10 percent chance of weather violating launch constraints on Thursday. The only concern is for possible coastal showers. Clouds are expected to be few at 3,000 feet; visibility 7 miles; temperature 73 degrees F; humidity 87 percent; and winds from the southeast at 7 knots peaking to 10 knots.

PRE-LAUNCH MILESTONES

Start Communications Systems Activation Tuesday at 5:30 a.m.
Retract Rotating Service Structure Wednesday at 5 a.m.
