Shuttle Processing Note
A few hours after the STS-101 landing on Monday, Atlantis was towed to Orbiter Processing Facility bay 3. Post-flight inspections and routine vehicle safing continue on schedule today. Preliminary inspections revealed a total of 64 debris hits to the orbiter’s lower surface, with only 18 measuring 1-inch or larger. Atlantis’ landing gear tires are reported to be in good condition.

Post-landing inspections also confirmed that tile damage to the underside of the right wing, previously documented by launch video analysis, was not a significant concern. The impact site is about 10 feet in front of the right inboard elevon and measures 5.25-inches long, 1.5-inches wide and .5-inch deep. There is no indication of structural damage.

Shuttle Processing Note
Discovery’s main engine heat shield installation continues. Hydraulic checks on the left inboard elevon actuator are scheduled for this week. In the Vehicle Assembly Building, booster stacking operations are expected to resume later this week with the right-hand solid rocket booster segments.

Shuttle Processing Note
Main landing gear wheel and tire installation is complete. Last week, the docking system for the International Space Station was installed on Endeavour. Today, preparation continues for the replacement of the right-hand orbiter maneuvering system engine. The wireless video system modification is in progress, and the robot arm will be installed later this week.
