| Shuttle Processing |
Flight controllers in Houston, TX, determined that Shuttle Discovery would not return to Earth today because of crosswind violations at KSC's Shuttle Landing Facility (SLF). The next opportunity for Discovery and the seven-member flight crew to land at KSC is Monday at about 2:51 p.m. EDT.
Weather forecasters reported that winds at the SLF today were from the northeast at 13 peaking to 19 knots and were not expected to improve throughout the day. Shuttle flight rules call for crosswinds not to exceed 15 knots. The forecast for Monday indicates winds from the northeast at 15 peaking to 25 knots and clouds scattered at 4,000 feet and broken at 25,000 feet. Mission control has designated Edwards Air Force Base (EAFB) as an alternate landing site tomorrow.
The two landing opportunities at KSC and three landing opportunities at EAFB are as follows:
1st KSC opportunity . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 2:51 p.m. EDT
