Preparation for next week's launch of Space
Shuttle Discovery continues to go well. The Shuttle main engine flight readiness
test is complete and aft compartment close-outs are in work. Today, workers
pressurized Discovery's hypergolic system and continued close-outs on the solid
rocket booster forward skirts. Orbiter maneuvering system engine gimbal tests
are under way to confirm proper positioning of the left OMS engine.
Workers are scheduled to install the aft compartment doors
Saturday evening. Flight crew equipment early stow begins Sunday and concludes
Monday night. Payload bay close-outs conclude Monday with door closure planned
for about 5 p.m. that same day. The seven-member flight crew is expected to
arrive at KSC Sunday at 7:30 p.m. to begin final preparation for launch. KSC's
launch team will assemble in firing room 3 Monday at 11:30 p.m. and the
countdown is slated to begin at midnight.
