On orbit activities continue today with the first EVA (spacewalk) currently under way. Landing remains scheduled for KSC on Wednesday, Aug. 22 at 12:48 p.m. Weather forecasters are currently monitoring a tropical system and its potential impact, if any, on next week's landing opportunities at KSC. Post-flight solid rocket booster inspections continue on schedule at Hangar AF. Inspectors report that both boosters are in good condition having sustained no abnormal damage. Nozzle removal begins today followed by forward skirt removal Friday. Booster disassembly will continue through next week.

Testing of the orbiter's robot arm is complete. The docking mechanism is scheduled for a functional test next week. Also, the Mobile Launcher Platform is scheduled to be moved to the Vehicle Assembly Building next Monday and booster-stacking operations will commence on Aug. 27.

Orbiter maneuvering system pod checks are complete. The payload bay doors will be closed on Saturday and the orbiter readied for transfer to the VAB temporarily next Tuesday. This will open up OPF bay 2 for Discovery's post-mission deservicing following its landing next week. Atlantis will likely remain in the VAB for about three weeks.

To receive status reports on the processing of Space Shuttles and their payloads and expendable launch vehicles and their NASA payloads, send an e-mail message with the instructions "subscribe shuttle-status" to domo@news.ksc.nasa.gov. Send a separate message to the same e-mail address with the instructions "subscribe ksc-press-release" for KSC-issued press releases. The instructions should be in the body, not the subject line, of the messages and should not include quotation marks. The system will confirm each subscription via e-mail.
