STRUCTURAL INSPECTION & MODIFICATION PERIOD

Vehicle Discovery/OV-103
Location Orbiter Processing Facility bay 2

Shuttle Processing Note  (previous notes)

Technicians completed post-landing inspections of Discovery's thermal protection system and reported a total of 144 debris hits to the orbiter's lower surface, sides and maneuvering system pods. Twenty-five hits measured 1-inch or larger. Workers have also completed preliminary inspection of Discovery's aft and forward thrusters and they appear to be in good condition. Today, the forward reaction control system is being vented, and payload removal is in work.

Orbiter Discovery is scheduled to begin a thorough structural inspection and modification period after STS-105 post-flight deservicing concludes. Shuttle managers are assessing the content and schedule of this planned work period.
