Processing Note (previous
notes) |
| Servicing of the hypergolic oxidizer propellants on board Shuttle Columbia was interrupted at Pad A early today due to the failure of a poppet in the Fill and Drain Quick Disconnect (QD) located near the right hand Orbiter Maneuvering System (OMS) pod. The poppet is an insert that opens and closes the QD. The poppet is being replaced and status of the QD is being assessed. Pending the assessment, Shuttle managers plan to resume oxidizer servicing later today and complete fuel loading on Friday. The Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) hot fire is scheduled for Saturday and the Hubble payload will be delivered to the pad early next week. The QD problem is not expected to impact Columbia's planned Feb. 28 launch date.
