Processing Note (previous
notes) |
The launch of Space Shuttle Endeavour is on schedule for tonight. Workers began fueling the external tank at 10:45 this morning for the 7:50 launch attempt tonight. At approximately 8:10 pm last night, Shuttle mission managers postponed the launch of Space Shuttle Endeavour on mission STS-113. Last night’s scrub was due to inclement weather at the Transoceanic Abort Landing (TAL) sites in Zaragoza and Moron, Spain. One of these two sites is required prior to launch in the event an emergency landing is required.
Weather forecasters currently indicate a less than ten percent chance of weather prohibiting launch at the Kennedy Space Center for tonight’s attempt. The weather forecast for the Transoceanic Abort Landing Sites in Spain is still a concern, however managers are hopeful for an opening in Zaragoza at launch time.
Last night, technicians at the Pad de-tanked more than 500,000 gallons of cryogenic propellant from the external tank to support scrub turnaround operations for tonight's launch attempt. De-tanking operations began at 8:45 p.m. and concluded at 11:30 p.m.
